Problem:
Dependent or habitual use of
various narcotic, stimulant, or mind influencing drugs
for other than medical purposes. Includes either or all
of physical, emotional, or mental addiction. Not
essentially a sickness but a sin problem causing
enslavement, sickness, etc.
Biblical
Statement
Jesus Christ has done
something about this problem. He came to liberate the
captives from sin.
Scripture
Galatians 5:19-26 The
activities of the flesh are obvious, which are:
immorality, sensuality, impurity, 20 idolatry,
witchcraft, hostility, strife, jealousy, outbursts of
anger, disputes, dissensions. 21 envying, drunkenness,
partying, and things like these, of which I warn you,
just as I have warned you before, that those who
practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of
God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is
no law. 24 at the present those who belong to Christ
Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and
desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk
by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited,
challenging one another, envying one another.
1st. Corinthians 6:12-20
Everything is lawful for me, but not all things are
advantageous, but I will not be mastered by anything. 13
Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but
God will do away with both of them. However the body is
not for wickedness, but is for the Lord, and the Lord is
for the body. 14 God has not only raised the Lord, but
will also raise us up through His power.
Ephesians 5:17-21 Don't be
stupid, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18
Don't drink so much to be intoxicated, for that is
debauchery, instead be filled with the Spirit.
Luke 4:18 Saint Paul is
telling you the Spirit of the Lord is on me, on account
of He anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He
has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and to
recover the sight to the blind, to set free those who
are downtrodden.
1st. John
3:4-10 4 Everybody who practices sin also practices
lawlessness and sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that
Jesus appeared in order to take away our sins. He is
the only one who is without sin.
6 No one who remains in Him sins. No one who sins has
seen Him. 7 Little children, make sure that you do not
wander off. The one who practices righteousness is
righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 the one who
practices sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned
from the beginning. The Son of God appeared for this
reason, to destroy the workings of the devil. 9 No one
who is born of God practices sin, since His seed abides
in him
and he cannot sin, because he is reborn of God. 10 By
this the children of God and the children of the devil
are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness
is not of God, nor the one who does not love his
brother.
Philippians
4:7-9 The peace of God, which exceeds all understanding
will protect your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, what is
honorable, what is right, what is pure, what is lovely,
what is of good reputation, if there is any excellence
and if anything is
worthy of praise, concentrate on these things. 9 The
things you have learned and received and heard and seen
in me, put into practice these things, and the God of
peace will be with you.
Galatians 5:3-6 And I testify
again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is
under obligation to keep the whole Law. 4 You have been
severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified
by law; you have fallen from grace. 5 For we through the
Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of
righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcised
nor uncircumcised means anything, but faith working
through love.
Gal 5:7-9 You
were running well, who hindered you from obeying the
truth? 8 This influence did not come from Him who calls
you.
9 A little moral corruption corrupts the entire lump.
Anyone that practices sin is
of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the
beginning. The Son of God appeared for the purpose to
destroying the works of the devil. Learn to yield
yourself to Christ rather than to drugs is the answer.
